Hof der dingen - Tessa Wullaert’s football boots

De gouden schoen van Tessa Wullaert

Trailblazer. Pioneer. They’re all big words, but they most certainly apply to Tessa Wullaert.

For years, this native of Tielt has been regarded as the icon of Belgian women’s football.

Tessa Wullaert first laced up her football boots at the age of five, defending the colours of FC Wakken. Via Ingelmunster, Sporting West Harelbeke, and DVC Zuid-West-Vlaanderen, she eventually joined Dames Zultse VV, with whom she won the Second Division title in 2009.

In 2012, Tessa moved to Anderlecht, and a year later she joined Standard Fémina, where she was named Player of the Year – for the first, but certainly not the last time.

It was the start of a dazzling international career that took her to Germany’s Wolfsburg and, later, even to the mighty Manchester City. After a brief return home to Anderlecht, her career continued at Fortuna Sittard, where she was again voted Player of the Year in the Honour Division.

Her already impressive track record put her on the radar of another iconic European club. Since 2024, Tessa has been playing for Inter Milan in Italy’s Serie A.

Although she has already won the Belgian Cup three times, the German Cup once, the English Cup once, and has been crowned national champion twice, this down-to-earth West Flemish person certainly doesn’t let it go to her head. Everyone knows her as a true “what you see is what you get” person – and that’s just how she hopes to keep it.
